In accordance with the Detailed Implementation Rules for Undergraduate Major Transfer of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU Undergraduate〔2022〕No.6) and the Notice on Major Transfer for Undergraduates of the 2021 and 2022 Intakes, and in combination with the school’s educational operation reality, XJTU-POLIMI Joint School of Design and Innovation hereby issues the official implementation plan for the 2023 undergraduate intra-school major transfer work as follows.
Ⅰ. Major Admission Quotas
1. The XJTU-POLIMI Joint School of Design and Innovation plans to admit 1 student for the Industrial Design program and 4 students for the Architecture program.
2. Only intra-school major transfer applications are accepted.
Ⅱ. Application Eligibility
1. Meet the basic major transfer criteria and other relevant requirements specified in the University’s Notice on Major Transfer for Undergraduates of the 2021 and 2022 Intakes.
2. Possess genuine academic interest, professional strengths and development potential in the target major.
3. Have sound psychological quality and good interpersonal communication capabilities.
4. Maintain a clean disciplinary record throughout undergraduate studies with no violations.
5. Pass the school’s qualification review and meet the professional training requirements of the target major.
Ⅲ. Review Procedures
1. From 9:00 on July 10 to 17:00 on July 11, eligible students shall submit major preference applications via the Comprehensive Academic Service Platform (ehall.xjtu.edu.cn). Supporting documents including English proficiency certificates and design portfolios can be attached to the application.
2. The school will conduct preliminary review on all submitted application materials and determine the shortlist of candidates for subsequent assessment in accordance with the University’s regulations and official admission quotas.
3. The school will organize comprehensive assessments for candidates who pass the preliminary review and make admission decisions based on comprehensive assessment results.
4. The proposed admission list will be submitted to the University Academic Affairs Office for verification, and the final official admission list will be released by the Academic Affairs Office.
Ⅳ. Assessment Methods
The major transfer assessment consists of two components: a written test and an interview.
1. Written Test: Advanced Mathematics (60%) + English (40%)
2. Interview Content: Candidates’ understanding and cognition of the target major, personal academic development plans, comprehensive literacy, and English listening and speaking proficiency.
3. The specific time and venue for the written test and interview will be announced separately.
Ⅴ. Admission Rules
1. Admission for each major will be conducted in descending order of candidates’ comprehensive assessment scores. In the event of identical total scores, candidates with higher written test scores will be prioritized for admission.
2. The comprehensive assessment score is composed of first-year academic credit grades (50%), written test scores (20%), and interview scores (30%).
3. The first-year academic credit grades refer to the scores of mandatory courses specified in the first-year teaching plan of the original major, excluding elective courses, physical education courses, and military training courses.
Ⅵ. Supplementary Course Requirements
1. The school will formulate a unified supplementary course list for transferred students. Students shall complete course substitution, credit recognition and supplementary coursework before the sixth semester for four-year undergraduate programs or the eighth semester for five-year undergraduate programs.
2. Students who fail to complete all required supplementary courses will be deemed as failing to fulfill the official teaching plan and will be disqualified from applying for postgraduate recommendation.
Ⅶ. Special Remarks
1. Students who have been officially approved for major transfer are not allowed to transfer back to their original major.
2. This implementation plan shall be subject to the exclusive interpretation of XJTU-POLIMI Joint School of Design and Innovation.
