Amidst the vibrant summer, undergraduate students majoring in Electrical Engineering and Automation from our university embarked on a transnational journey to Imperial College London, participating in a two-week intensive summer research program. Eight students from our school, including Kong Boxiong, joined the delegation as part of this enriching academic expedition. Throughout the program, the students gained profound insights into diverse cultures through immersive experiences and expanded their global outlook through dedicated academic exploration.
Over the two-week intensive program, participants delved deep into the cutting-edge global theme of Sustainable Development. At the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London, distinguished academics including Professor Tim Green and Professor Peter Childs delivered insightful lectures, introducing students to key fields such as Life Cycle Assessment, Digital Energy Systems, and applications of Artificial Intelligence in Power Systems. The scholars provided in-depth analyses of the UK’s decarbonization strategies and policy frameworks, alongside inspiring presentations on sustainable and innovative design. Complemented by two industrial-focused seminars, these sessions significantly broadened the students’ professional horizons and fostered a global mindset.
Beyond theoretical learning, rigorous engineering practice was integrated throughout the program. Under the guidance of the teaching assistant team, student groups engaged in intensive brainstorming and collaborative teamwork to develop their core projects. Building on systematic training from a professional workshop on Effective Presentation and Communication, the students confidently presented their final outcomes to a panel of expert reviewers on the closing day. They subsequently received formal certification at the award ceremony, marking a remarkable transformation from theoretical learning to practical application and celebrating their academic achievements.
The students also visited the University of Cambridge, immersing themselves in the scholarly heritage and timeless elegance of one of the world’s leading institutions. They cruised along the River Thames, explored the historic Royal Borough of Greenwich, and visited the Royal Albert Hall, experiencing the dynamic blend of ancient and modern culture that defines London. This journey was equally dedicated to academic pursuit and cultural exploration.
As they move forward, the students will carry with them the knowledge gained and passion ignited, continuing to stride purposefully toward a future of global impact and sustainable innovation.
