To further improve the international education level of the XJTU-POLIMI Joint School of Design and Innovation and cultivate top-notch innovative talents with global vision and international competitiveness, the joint school will select outstanding Grade 2023 undergraduate students majoring in Architecture to participate in a short-term summer exchange program at Politecnico di Milano, Italy in the summer of 2025. Relevant matters are hereby notified as follows:
I. Introduction to the Host University
Founded in 1863 and located in Milan, Italy, Politecnico di Milano is a public research university dedicated to cultivating world-class engineers, architects and architectural professionals. As a member of the IDEA League (an alliance of top European engineering universities), Politecnico di Milano ranks 123rd in the 2024 QS World University Rankings.
II. Program Overview
1. Exchange Period: July 2 – July 12, 2024
2. Study Venues: Milan, Mantova, Venice and other cities
3. Program Content: Mainly including research activities such as academic lectures and field visits
4. Credit Recognition: Students participating in this study visit program are exempt from the Architectural Cognition Practice course. Credit substitution and recognition will be uniformly processed by the School after their return to campus.
5. Program Quota: 20 students
6. Program Fee: Tuition and teaching fees during the study visit will be covered by Politecnico di Milano. All other expenses shall be borne by students themselves. The estimated self-funded expenses are around 4,000 euros, including air tickets, local transportation in Italy, visa fees, insurance premiums, accommodation, meals, etc. The actual amount shall prevail.
III. Application Requirements
1. Excellent academic performance, good moral conduct, no disciplinary sanctions during enrollment, physical and mental health, and ability to successfully complete the study tasks in Italy.
2. At least 18 years old by July 1, 2025.
3. Family with sufficient financial capacity to cover all expenses required for the study visit.
IV. Selection Criteria
The School will verify the credit scores of compulsory courses (excluding scores of physical education, military training, professional elective courses and general education elective courses) of eligible applicants covering the 2023/24 academic year to the first semester of the 2024/25 academic year.
Applicants will be ranked in descending order based on the above-mentioned compulsory course scores. In case of a tie in scores, applicants will be re-ranked by their compulsory English course scores. The top 25 applicants will be shortlisted for an interview. The final list of the top 20 students will be determined based on 70% of compulsory course scores and 30% of interview performance.

VI. Warm Reminders
The School will notify admitted students of follow-up arrangements, and provide guidance on accommodation reservation, visa application, flight booking and other relevant procedures. Admitted students shall attend the pre-departure orientation, complete the Letter of Commitment for Overseas Study of Xi’an Jiaotong University and the Approval Form for Short-term Official Overseas Visit of Xi’an Jiaotong University Undergraduate/Graduate Students, and strictly follow the university’s official overseas visit approval procedures.
