On August 30, 2024, President Donatella Sciuto, Vice President Giuliano Noci, Representative of the President Sergio Amedeo Pignari, and Director of the China Office of the School of Management Delia Olivetto of Politecnico di Milano visited the XJTU-POLIMI Joint School of Design and Innovation (Joint School). Both sides held talks on talent cultivation, scientific research cooperation, college development, and strengthening cooperation in related disciplines. Liu Wenfeng, Director of the International Office, relevant leaders of Joint School, all faculty and staff, and student representatives participated in the meeting.
Professor Zhai Binqing, Assistant Dean of the Joint School, first invited the delegation of the President of Politecnico di Milano to visit the Milan Building, reviewing the development history of the school and introducing the construction of the school and the Milan Building
During the meeting, Professor Chen Xiaoming, Vice Dean of Joint School, first extended a warm welcome to President Donatella Sciuto and her delegation. He reviewed the background of the establishment of the college, introduced the characteristics, achievements, and external exchange and cooperation of talent cultivation in the college. He expressed that during the construction and development of the college, both sides have always actively communicated and jointly solved the problems and difficulties encountered, looking forward to more teachers and students from Politecnico di Milano coming to Joint School to carry out teaching and research cooperation in the future.
Professor Donatella Sciuto said that Xi'an Jiaotong University is an important partner of Politecnico di Milano, and the 15 years of exchange and cooperation between the two universities have profound significance and bright prospects. Politecnico di Milano hopes to continue to deepen cooperation on the basis of joint education, and also looks forward to more Italian professorial teams conducting scientific research and school-enterprise cooperation with the Chinese side.
Professor Giuliano Noci said that the development of Joint School is at a critical stage, requiring both sides to work together and make concerted efforts. He emphasized that Xi'an and Italy are the two ends of the ancient Silk Road, and suggested that both sides broaden their horizons, focus on higher goals, and rely on Joint School to attract high-quality teachers and students from both China and abroad, broadening the college's multidisciplinary development in engineering and related fields.
Professor Sergio Amedeo Pignari expressed his hope that both sides will continue to promote and strengthen cooperation and exploration in scientific research, strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Chinese and Italian enterprises, and create an innovative industry-university-research cooperation model of "Politecnico di Milano + Xi'an Jiaotong University + Enterprises."
Joint School is an important platform for Xi'an Jiaotong University and Politecnico di Milano in cultivating innovative talents and promoting multidisciplinary scientific research cooperation between the two universities. Both sides will work closely together and actively explore to inject sustained new momentum into the high-quality development of talent cultivation and scientific research innovation of the two universities.
